    Description

    Summary

    A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

    Duties

    Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately mid-January through early November, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

    Major Duties of this position include:

  • Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
  • Replaces defective siding, steps, windowsills and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps.
  • Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers.
  • Paints various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets.
  • Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines.
    • AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Big Thicket National Preserve consists of 15 land and water corridor units, totaling just over 100,000 acres dispersed over 3,600 square miles in southeast Texas. Known as the "Biological Crossroads of North America", the area has a temperate climate and an average rainfall of 45 inches. The Headquarters is located near Kountze, TX which is about 110 miles from Houston. Summer temperatures range from 80 to 100 degrees with high humidity and winter lows in the 20s.

    The duty station of this position is Kountze, Texas located about 35 miles north of Beaumont, Texas. Kountze is a small town with some amenities; however, the city of Beaumont lies in the southeast corner of Texas, along interstate 10, about 80 miles east of Houston. With a current population of 115,570, Beaumont is the most populated city in the Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Hardin, Jefferson and Orange counties. Beaumont has a semi-tropical climate which draws residents and visitors year-round for birding, fishing, hunting, boating, swimming, camping, and other outdoor recreation.
