About the New Mexico Military Institute:The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a state-supported, coeducational institution offering college-preparatory education at the high school and junior college levels. With a student body of up to 1,000 cadets, NMMI offers a comprehensive academic experience complemented by Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. The high school curriculum is fully accredited and prepares students for higher education. The junior college program facilitates cadet transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Additionally, NMMI houses the Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA) for grades 6-8. The IPA delivers a distinctive curriculum emphasizing immersive, intensive, hands-on learning in a structured environment.

Position:The Commandant of Cadets exercises command, supervision, and mentorship over the Corps of Cadets. The Commandant reports directly to the President / Superintendent and serves as a key member of the New Mexico Military Institute President/Superintendent's Executive Staff. The Commandant also serves as the Chief Operations Officer for NMMI. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time position. The salary range is $110, $140,000.00 which will be based on level of education, military service, and experience. The job description is available upon request.

Tasks:

· Exercise direct command supervision over the Corps of Cadets (Cadet Body), comprised of up to 1000 High School and Junior College Cadets (Every Cadet is a member of the Corps of Cadets).

· Directly responsible for the safety, security, health and welfare, mentorship, leader and character development, physical readiness, discipline, control, and accountability of all cadets.

· Oversee and coordinate cadet daily activities, quality of life and most areas normally associated with the Assistant High School Principal and Vice President for Cadet Affairs.

· Oversee all cadet activities and support functions, and is responsible for event planning, coordination and execution involving the Corps of Cadets.

· Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills:

· Knowledge of education management and administration at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

· Knowledge of crisis and conflict management.

· Ability to obtain knowledge of the Operations and Procedures Manual, Blue Book, Academic Catalogue, Faculty Handbook, Troop Leadership Advisor Handbook, applicable Junior and Senior Army ROTC publications and manuals, military field manuals, Cadet affairs administration, Secondary and Post-secondary accreditation and assessment, and other source materials.

· Ability to obtain knowledge of NMMI customs and traditions.

· Skill in promoting the success of all cadets by maintaining a "culture of learning" that supports cadet academic achievement, high-quality instruction, and leader and character development to meet the diverse learning needs of

the Corps of Cadets (Cadet Body).

Qualifications:

Required:

· Master's Degree

· Prior military service with successful command experience at a Battalion or higher level or its equivalent. Candidate must have prior service in the U.S. Armed Forces (Active, National Guard, or Reserves) at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or maritime forces (U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard) at the rank of Commander or higher.

Preferred:

· Academic background or experience in education.

· Graduate of NMMI, or a graduate of another military academy or school, or have prior experience as an Administrator at a military school or academy.
