    Description Position Title: Medical Director Program/Dept: Psychiatry Reports to: Chief Clinical Officer Classification: Regular, Full Time Exempt Salary Range: $420k + DOEE + Full Benefit Package Agency Description: Founded in San Mateo, California, in 1964, Caminar's thriving programs and services serve more than 14,000 individuals annually across San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Solano, and Butte Counties. Our nonprofit organization's portfolio of behavioral health and supportive services empowers and supports individuals and families to move toward resilience, wellness, and independence. We are expanding our capacity to address the increasingly complex needs of individuals and families in Northern California. Position Description: The Medical Director provides clinical leadership of regional community-based medical clinics and provides clinical guidance to clinic and program staff. Services are intended to provide stabilization and increased independence for clients with serious mental illness. This position includes approx. 20 hrs. per week of direct clinical care. Duties and responsibilities include:
    • Providing medical consultation and education to other staff psychiatrists and other providers in the clinical team.
    • Recruiting, hiring, training of staff Psychiatrists.
    • Conducting quality and peer quality reviews, defining and maintaining quality measures and regulatory compliance in collaboration with other compliance and quality staff.
    • Define, maintain and implement policies and procedures about clinical policies and workflows that involve psychiatric care
    • Collaborate with other health care providers, community agencies, and organizations to coordinate care and referrals for patients with complex needs
    • Advising the CEO, Chief Clinical Officer and Executive Directors regarding the development and review of the Clinic's programs, positions, and budgets that impact clinical services.
    • Participate with the CEO, Chief Clinical Officer and the Executive Directors in meetings with private and public payors, in particular with Medical Directors or equivalent clinical leadership in payor organizations.
    • Conduct two annual agency-wide trainings on medications and other topics as appropriate in collaboration with the Executive Director or training staff
    • Lead and define practice standards around reoccurring practice issues such as use of benzodiazepines, ADHD diagnosis and treatment, medication assisted treatment, harm reduction, and clinically inappropriate polypharmacy.
    • Serving as a liaison between Caminar and regulators, payers, and referral sources specifically related to medical practice issues
    • In conjunction with the CFO and CPO planning and preparing the budget and revenue projections for the medical and nursing department
    • Participate in County or Payor Medical Director meetings on clinical policy and practices
    • Provide clinical leadership and support across service lines including outpatient specialty mental health, intensive specialty mental health, SUTS, LGBTQ and other programs that have a psychiatric program component.
    • Provide approx. 20 hours of work of direct clinical care to
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications and requirements:
    • A medical degree from an accredited medical school
    • A board certification in psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent
    • A valid license to practice medicine in the state of California
    • Current DEA and CPR certification
    • Knowledge of the following evidence-based models: Psychosocial Rehabilitation, ACT Model, Full-Service Partnership, Harm Reduction, Housing First, and Motivational Interviewing is preferred.
    • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in psychiatry in a leadership role
    • A knowledge of current best practices, standards, and regulations in psychiatry and mental health care
    • A strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • A ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, clinical leadership, line staff and senior leadership
    • Proper documentation and proficiency in EHR systems
    • Thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations.
    • Medical ethics as they relate to patient care.
    • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including email and Internet navigation required. Experience with Human Service Information Systems strongly preferred. Experience with web-based time and attendance and staff training and development system is strongly preferred.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor and to always represent the organization in a positive manner. Must demonstrate acceptable level of maturity, good judgment, and emotional stability.
    • Problem solving-identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
    • Customer Service-manages difficult customer situations, responds promptly to customer need, and solicits customer feedback to improve service.

    • Planning/organizing-prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
    • Adaptability-adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, and can deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
    • Dependability-is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
    • Safety and security-actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
    • Must be a dynamic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently on special projects.
    Special Requirements:
    • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
    • This position requires frequent driving. A valid California driver license, reliable personal vehicle, current personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.
    • Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
    • A personal cell phone with reliable service and, if applicable, a data plan to use for business purposes.
