    The John Hope and Aurelia E. Franklin Library is currently in search of a forward-thinking, collaborative, and team-oriented Digital Archivist to play a pivotal role in our exciting project, "Forging Future Pathways Forward: Building a Portal to Rosenwald Collections for all at Fisk University." This digital initiative is aimed at digitizing and providing online access to the invaluable records and photographs contained within the Julius Rosenwald Fund archive.

    As a Digital Archivist at our institution, you will be the driving force behind this project, offering your leadership and expertise to ensure its success. Your responsibilities will encompass various aspects of archival work, including metadata management, imaging, quality control, and digital content management. You will also assume the role of Project Manager, collaborating closely with the rest of the project team to achieve our objectives.

    The Digital Archivist position we are offering is a unique opportunity, as it is a grant-funded role that spans from 2023 to 2026. Franklin Library.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    List job responsibilities/functions here:
    • Engages in activities to meet the primary purpose of the project; that is, to plan for a major portal for the Rosenwald Fund Archives
    • Develops and implements standards and best practices for description, preservation, and administrative metadata in collaboration with project partners
    • Manages the digital content for long-term preservation and access
    • Integrates proper digital forensic tools to ensure records integrity
    • Maintains ongoing analysis of project needs and modifies activities accordingly
    • Trains and supervises graduate and undergraduate student assistants
    • Prepares reports as required
    • Engages in professional development such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions
    SUPPORTIVE/SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

    In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time achieving each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the University:For this implementation grant, support of the primary tasks of the project will suffice.

    SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Some knowledge of Julius Rosenwald Fund and Rosenwald School resources at Fisk University
    • Excellent management skills
    • Excellent knowledge of digital archival management and preservation standards
    • Ability to work well with the project staff and the public, as needed
    • Good knowledge of advances in library technology to facilitate access to information
    • Ability to conduct research and identify Rosenwald-related collections at other repositories
    Qualifications

    Education:Master's degree in library or information science with a broad knowledge of technology, or at least a master's degree in information technology or a related field

    Experience:Minimum of 2 years experience with digital archives, preservation, or life cycle planning. Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to keep current with standards and new technologies. Demonstrated commitment to the promotion and enhancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Supervisory and/or training experience.
    • Experience using Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, Jira or other project management tools.
    • Knowledge of metadata formats such as EAD, MARC, and Dublin Core.
    • Experience handling archival materials.
    • Experience in digital imaging, including creating, editing, and storing image files.
    • Experience using CONTENTdm, bepress Digital Commons, Omeka, and/or other digital asset management software.
    • Expertise using Photoshop, Adobe Professional, and/or other digital imaging editing programs.
    • Experience organizing, managing, and completing projects successfully.
