Ground Up Innovations (GUI) is a small engineering consulting company that provides engineering design and prototyping services to hardware start-ups. We work on clean-tech, robotics, automation, test systems, and even tech that goes into space GUI is a rapidly growing startup itself, founded in 2020. We are seeking a skilled and motivated senior engineer to take ownership of product development projects in our growing portfolio.
Reporting to the Founder and Principal Engineer, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all phases of technology development, including research, engineering design, hands-on prototyping, testing, documentation, and occasional installations at customer sites. If you have interest in how small businesses are run; there are also opportunities to contribute to business development and operations at GUI.

Required Skills and Experience:
● Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, electro-mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, or similar engineering discipline
● 5+ years of relevant work experience, with direct involvement designing and building complex technologies
● Appetite to work hard, learn, have fun, and innovate every day
● Must be able to demonstrate the ability to:
o Efficiently design and draft in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) following best practices
o Work safely and effectively in a workshop, using power tools and manufacturing equipment
o Implement motors, sensors, actuators and controls within mechanical systems.
o Communicate ideas, concepts, and challenges in a professional manner (both written and verbal)
o Think a few steps ahead, and bring solutions to the table
o Quickly learn new skills and apply them
o Manage projects, delivering on time and budget; while working on multiple concurrent projects
Bonus Skills and Experience:
● Experience working at a start-up technology company
● Simulation skills such as FEA, CFD, MDB
● Manufacturing, machining, welding, and sheet metal skills
● PLC programming and electrical hardware integration/debugging
● Experience with or interest in the following software packages and languages:
Programming languages (Python, VBA, etc...)
Data acquisition hardware/software (LabView, etc...)
● Interest in and enthusiasm for how businesses are run and how to make improvements to a growing organization
