    Description:

    Purpose of Role: The Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing (CON), University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), seeks applications for the endowed Parry Chair in Gerontological Nursing. This appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, consecutive or tenure track eligible.

    The successful applicant will be a leading nurse authority in gerontological nursing who shares the University's high standards for innovative and collaborative practice and research that revolutionizes nursing practice, fosters health equity, and improves health outcomes. Our concept of gerontological nursing is broad and addresses the unique physiological, psychological, developmental, economic, cultural, spiritual, and advocacy needs of older adults, including social and structural determinants of health. Preference will be given to applicants with a history of interdisciplinary collaboration with a sustained record of funded research, a national presence, and experience mentoring junior nurse scientists and graduate students.

    This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing faculty and contribute to the continued growth of our academic and research programs in the college and university. OUHSC is a comprehensive academic health center with six professional colleges and the Graduate College in one administrative structure, providing the opportunity to form varied teams of researchers to address complex biomedical research problems. OUHSC has a broad range of research, education, and training programs that bring faculty, students, clinicians, and community partners together, and the campus received nearly $180M in sponsored award funding in FY22. The CON was founded in 1911 and is the largest nursing program in Oklahoma, offering degree programs at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels. With over 100 faculty members and 1100 students across five sites, the CON's mission is to advance health in Oklahoma and beyond by educating future leaders, engaging in scientific discovery, translating evidence into practice, and driving innovation. The CON was awarded nearly $15M from NIH and HRSA in FY23 to support research and workforce development.

    Faculty appointments will be based on the candidates' academic preparation, level of expertise, and experience. All faculty are expected to contribute to the academic mission of the CON by operationalizing the interdependence among education, research, and practice/service.

    This job description is a statement of minimum expectations and describes a level of performance expected of all faculty. In accordance with requirements of academic rank, consecutive-term and tenure track faculty are expected to perform at higher than minimum levels. Specific criteria for promotion and tenure can be found in the College of Nursing Criteria for Faculty Appointment and in the OUHSC Faculty Handbook, Sections 3.8 and 3.9.

    Appointment: Faculty are accountable to their assigned department chair/site coordinator/Dean.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Provide high quality instruction (didactic, experiential, simulation, etc.) and interprofessional learning experiences by incorporating the latest research, knowledge, and theory into all instruction.
    2. Update course content, courses, and curriculum according to the CON policies and procedures.
    3. Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to advance the education, research and service mission of the College and University.
    4. Maintain current knowledge and competence in area of expertise.
    5. Contribute to the development of curriculum, teaching materials, and evaluation at all levels.
    6. Seek new and better devices, techniques, online technologies, procedures, and methods to improve the teaching and learning process.
    7. Recognize individual needs of students and provide challenging learning opportunities for all learners while maintaining a supportive learning environment.
    8. Provide academic/career advisement and encouragement to students through formal and informal conferences.
    9. Design, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based teaching strategies to supplement and improve instruction and ensure student outcomes.
    10. Assign grades that reflect student achievement and progress.
    11. Provide timely and appropriate feedback to students.
    12. Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
    13. Develop continuing education opportunities.
    14. Remain active in their fields of study through research.
    15. Contribute to one's science through dissemination; articles, books, presentation of findings, and in other ways.
    16. Seek intramural and extramural funding to advance one's research.
    17. Leverage professional expertise and experience to engage in service to the department, CON, OUHSC, the community, and their one's.
    18. Promote the OUHSC CON positively to the community and to current and future students.
    19. Work collaboratively with department chair/site coordinator to determine annual instructional workload assignment. implement and evaluate clinical practice and outreach as they relate to the OUHSC CON master plan for evaluation.
    20. Support the OUHSC CON mission and vision.
    21. Other duties as required by the Dean

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

    Licensure: Eligible for or hold current registered nurse license for the State of Oklahoma is preferred. Unlicensed faculty may not teach undergraduate and graduate clinical nursing courses.

    Education: Graduate degree in Nursing and Terminal Degree in Nursing, Health, Science or Social Science Related Field, preferred. Faculty teaching in the PhD Program must meet the Graduate College faculty appointment guidelines for Associate Member or Full Member Appointment at level 3 or 4 authority.

    Experience:

    • 2 years of clinical practice experience for licensed applicants required
    • Faculty teaching in advanced practice programs (NP and CNS) must hold appropriate specialty certification and have a minimum of one year of advanced practice registered nurse experience in the specialty.
    • 2 years higher education teaching preferred
    • A record of scholarship and extramural funding preferred

    • Evidence of successful collaborations with community partners and faculty teams in an academic setting; effective communication skills; knowledge of nursing academic curricula and programs; plans and conducts effective meetings; and evidence of leadership ability
    • Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence.
    • Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner
    • Ability to exercise astute judgment in all matters related to academic affairs
    • Proficient with MS Office applications, learning management software and other technology used in teaching, research and practice.
