    Job Summary:

    Performs minor set ups and operates a minimum of three (3) assigned CNC machines and related equipment to perform a variety of operations such as milling, drilling, tapping, boring, turning, grinding and inspecting as necessary under moderate supervision.

    Location: Jacksonville, NC

    Pay: $ $18.00 per hour

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Performs minor set ups and operates CNC machines and related equipment to perform a variety of operations where control tapes, fixtures and methods have been developed.
    • Makes adjustments for tool offsets and locating coordinates.
    • Demonstrates some knowledge of feeds and speeds, and a working knowledge of various cutting tools and their application.
    • Inspects work for all dimensional features as required.
    • Knows well and uses SPC to produce work of required quality.
    • Enters machine programs for minor editing or makes adjustments as necessary.
    • Sets conventional deburring, polishing and drilling machines as required.
    • Operates various support equipment to machine, deburr and polish as required.
    • Follows layouts, blueprints and process sheets and other instructions to ensure that parts are produced to engineering specifications.
    • Accurately uses micrometers, verniers and comparators to inspect work.
    • Checks gages for proper calibration and informs supervisor when they are not properly calibrated.
    • Produces quality and quantity of work in accordance with departmental requirements.
    • Assures accurate recording of vital information such as counts, scrap, time, etc. according to company and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Observes all plant and departmental safety practices and procedures.
    • Prepares required paperwork.
    • Performs preventative maintenance as required, and keeps machines lubricated.
    • Follows housekeeping procedures in maintaining a neat and orderly work area.
    • Cleans chips from machines as required.
    • Checks coolant tanks and refills as necessary.
    • Assists new and less experienced operators as requested.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be able to understand and follow instructions in English.
    • Must be able to understand and interpret blueprints.
    • Must have demonstrated mechanical ability.
    • Must be able to read and understand operation sheets.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Must be high school graduate or equivalent.
    • Must have a minimum of one year's experience as CNC Operator IV or equivalent experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Up to 50lbs max weight lifting without assistance.
    • Continuous walking/standing/stretching/bending/kneeling is required for the position.

    Working Conditions:

    • Must be willing to work in oil and water soluble fluids.
    • Must be able to work with limited supervision.
    • Required working overtime from time to time to include weekends or extended hours.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR SPECIFIC CNC OPERATOR DISCIPLINES

    Special Qualifications – CNC Operator V – SIDI

    • Capable of using basic tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.
    • Capable of learning multi-functional material handling systems.
    • Understand and operate wheel positioning in both the X and Z coordinates in order to setup a grinding.
    • Understand SPC trends and know how to react with machine adjustments to bring the equipment back in control.
    • Assist in reducing scrap rate.
    • Willing and able to work on the ABC schedule.

    Special Qualifications – CNC Operator V – Diesel

    • Understand and know how to make manual adjustments on Centerless grinders, O.D. and I.D. grinders, Honing, in order to maintain size, straightness, and roundness.
    • Do work piece inspections using micrometer / calibers / Form testers / Vision systems / boroscope / go – no go gauge blocks / air rings / air spindles with column gages, tri rollers, and surface analyzer.
    • Must have an understanding of CNC and manual stock removal adjustments, and deburring operations.
