    Job Title:Director of Recreation Services
    Department: Therapeutic Recreation
    Reports To: Vice President of Community Programs
    FLSA: Exempt

    Pay Rate: 60k+ DOE

    SUMMARY

    The Director of Recreation Services plays a crucial role in our community, responsible for developing, overseeing, and directing a diverse range of Community Therapeutic Recreation services for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. (I/DD) This role involves supervising professional staff, developing budgets, monitoring, reporting, planning innovative recreation, and representing the agency publicly on behalf of the recreation services and the entire agency.

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Recruits, hires, schedules, supervises and evaluates program staff.
    • Ensures that recreational activities enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning of individuals with I/DD.
    • Reviews the progress and effectiveness of Community Therapeutic Recreation.
    • Maintaining effective community liaisons, networking, cooperative planning, and working relationships with allied public agencies, service groups, and business organizations. This may include memberships in Affiliated Committees and Boards.
    • Oversees the reservation of facilities, acquires supplies, and delegates responsibilities in planning and reports for recreation activities through knowledge of rule applications, instructional methods, and rule and equipment adaptations for cognitive and physiological impairments for recreation activities.
    • Resolves medical, behavioral, and logistical issues that may arise. Conducts investigations as needed for accident and incident reports.
    • Coordinates and justifies departmental budgets. Familiarity with funding and regulatory guidelines and directs and monitors expenditures, including departmental donated funds, to ensure they are appropriately expended and accounted for. Aggregates and monitors departmental services reporting for formal departmental billing and forwards it to the Finance Department for Eitas and DDRB Billing.
    • In addition, keeps a departmental record regarding program services.
    • Attends applicable agency Leadership meetings and reports departmental updates. Participates as a member of the Strategic Planning.
    • Attends training as required. Assures that Continuing Education Unit requirements are attained and maintained, as required for professional staff certifications. Reviews selects and registers departmental staff in appropriate conferences/seminars. In addition, it ensures that departmental State and National Professional Organizational Memberships are complete and up-to-date.
    • Oversees the process and logistics of Recreation Newsletters and Website.
    • Monitors, documents, and maintains program and participant information and coordinates and consolidates in Pro Class software needed department reports/information.
    • Processes new participant registrations and conducts liaison with Center for Human Services, DDRB, and Eitas as needed to establish & maintain eligibility of participants.
    • Evaluates program modification and expansion needs through aggregation and evaluation of participant data.
    • Maintains close working relationships and familiarity with local school districts, state, and Park and Recreation Municipalities. In addition, ensures quality programming and/or personnel consistent with standards of finding sources, Missouri Parks and Recreation, National Recreation and Parks Association.
    • Ability to effectively recruit eligible program participants and conduct youth programs, in addition to Department Newsletters of Activities, through phone, e-mail, fax, in-person, flyers, or mailings as needed to enhance program services.
    • The ability to effectively and efficiently use computers or mobile devices to input, access, modify, or output information. This includes the ability to access, store, and retrieve data quickly.
    • All other duties are as assigned by the supervisor.
    ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Director of Recreation Services position is a professional position based on up to 45 hours per week. The Director generally schedules regular office hours during which he/she can plan and communicate with agencies and ongoing community programs during regular business hours. Also, the Director will attend/supervise recreation activities on weekday evenings and weekend evenings.

    Physical Expectations
    • This position requires extended periods of walking and standing, with some periods of sitting, depending on the needs and activities of the individuals supported. It may require light to heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds independently, and occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs.
    • The position will require occasional physical intervention if confronted by a person displaying combative or potentially dangerous behavior.
    • Driving an agency or personal vehicle is a part of community integration for the individuals we support if needed.
    Working Conditions

    Office/Home environment with noises from appliances, telephones, and occasional small machinery (lawn mower, etc.). May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases. Occasionally, prolonged hours or unusual chores meet the unexpected needs of the individuals (i.e., medical and/or behavioral).

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • A bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. In addition, a minimum of three to four years of successful field and/or supervisory experience, preferably working with individuals with developmental disabilities, is a plus.
    • Skills in community development, planning, directing, and supervising programs and staff for developmentally disabled individuals or groups.
    • Extensive knowledge of modern administration, philosophy, and program practice in the Public Recreation, Therapeutic, and Leisure Fields or related fields.
    • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with the public, establish cooperative networking, and positive and effective public relations for the agency.
    • Ability to anticipate needs, respond with workable solutions, and implement new ideas. In addition, there is the capacity to identify and capitalize on opportunities that could improve the organization.
    • Ability to perform all of the position's requirements as outlined in the job description.
    • Must obtain a Class E driver's license during new hire orientation- must carry minimum coverage applicable by law for auto insurance
