Job Title: Weld & Assembly Leader
Industry: Prototype & Low-Volume Manufacturing
Location: Michigan, Clinton Township
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Weld & Assembly Leader to oversee daily operations within our prototype and low-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for leading skilled welders and assemblers while ensuring quality, on-time delivery, and efficient workflow in a fast-paced, quick-turn setting.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong fabrication and welding knowledge who thrives in a high-mix, low-volume production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Weld and Assembly departments on a daily basis.
- Coordinate workflow to meet prototype and short-run production schedules.
- Assign jobs, balance manpower, and prioritize urgent builds.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, drawings, and customer specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and weld symbols.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues during builds.
- Work closely with engineering, laser, brake press, quality, and finishing departments.
- Train and mentor welders and assemblers to improve skill levels and efficiency.
- Monitor productivity and maintain department performance metrics.
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Assist hands-on with welding and assembly when required.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience (MIG, TIG, CMT, Spot/Resistance Welding ).
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in prototype or high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Ability to read complex mechanical drawings and weld symbols.
- Experience with fixture setup and custom assembly builds.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Knowledge of cosmetic weld finishing standards.
- Knowledge Robotic Welding (Fanuc)
- Familiarity with ERP or production scheduling systems.
- Forklift and crane operation experience.
