    About the Job

    The Histopathology Operations Specialist II is a core member of the Laboratory Operations Team. This
    position supports members of the Upstream Laboratory and Pathology functions through specimen and
    data stewardship, data entry, equipment maintenance, and process troubleshooting. A Histopathology
    Operations Specialist II is required to complete tasks independently with minimal direction from senior
    staff. Additionally, they will complete projects, assist in workflow improvements, and help triage complex
    case troubleshooting. Histopathology Operations Specialists may be assigned to work any day the lab is
    operational.

    Key Responsibilities:


    • Perform real time technical support with pathologists, including but not limited to specimen quality
    assessments and measurements.

    • Analyze specimen data in multiple platforms while ensuring data and process integrity to triage stakeholder inquiries.

    • Assist in the training of new team members on improvements, processes, and systems.

    • Maintain proper documentation including appropriate specimen handling, labeling, and quality
    control measures.

    • Perform specimen and data stewardship to ensure specimen integrity and testing continuity.

    • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as necessary.

    • Assist other teams within laboratory operations and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

    • Perform routine scanning of stained slides with digital scanners.

    • Follow instructions defined in Standard Operating Procedures.

    • Maintain attention to detail for quality completion of each task.

    • Assist in attributing and debulking clinical and research study patient specimens.

    • Be familiar with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) for all area forms.

    • Complete projects under the guidance of senior lab employees and pathologists.

    • Ability to multitask.

    • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with other departments and colleagues.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Basic Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent (General Education Degree) and 4 years of experience in
    logistics, science, technology or another regulated field.

    • OR Associates Degree in biological, life, or laboratory sciences and 3 years of experience in
    logistics, science, technology or another regulated field.

    • OR Bachelor's degree in biological or life science and 1 year of experience in logistics, science,
    technology or another regulated field.

    • 1+ years of experience with data management, maintaining quality and accuracy, within a
    Laboratory Information System (LIS).

    • Previous experience with lab technology and computer systems.

    • Computer proficiency, including data entry skills.

    • Familiarity with Anatomy and Physiology, Cancer Biology, Human Biology and/or medical
    terminology.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1+ year of professional experience in a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/College of
    American Pathologists certified laboratory.

    • Previous experience:

    • Handling and communicating important information, particularly scientific or technical information.

    • Closely following verbal and written instructions and operation procedures.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, including strong written and oral communication, collaboration, and
    problem solving.

    • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with other departments and colleagues.

    • History of demonstrated ability to work independently and work in teams.

    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

    • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction, particularly with scientific or technical information.

    • Ability to work in a laboratory environment, in the presence of chemicals and reagents.

    • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data.
