Position Description

Job Description

The Asphalt Superintendent is responsible to safely supervise and coordinate paving activities pertaining to specific projects. He/ She will be directly responsible for the efficiency and quality of the paving operation from the plant production down to the laydown crew.

• Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Order and continually manage the materials needed for hot mix production.
• Manage the trucking necessary to cost effectively service the project.
• Direct responsibility over the hot mix Foreman and laydown crew.
• Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects.
• Produce quality asphalt product within specifications.
• Teach and develop employees.
• Communicate with project stakeholders.
• Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily.
• Work with Quality Control department to ensure delivery of a quality product.

Position Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

• Perform daily equipment "walk around" and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
• Safely and properly supervise and coordinate personnel and tasks pertaining to projects.
• Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) in all situations.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer and employee relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
• Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.).
• Monitor and discuss production issues with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
• Ensure regulation compliance as per standards.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate with QC/QA/QM personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
• Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
• Understand and adhere to Company policies.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in Paving supervisory role.
• Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements:

• Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
• Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Saturday work as dictated by scheduling.
• Must be able to wear a hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses and safety-toed boots.
