    Description
    Job Description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

    Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer to join an established and growing national engineering design and construction team of multi-disciplinary professionals. You will provide technical and business development support for projects across the United States (US), Canada, and globally as needed. The preferred locations are Syracuse, NY; White Plains, NY; Clifton Park, NY; Arlington, VA or New Orleans, LA with potential for other focused Arcadis offices.

In this position, you will provide geotechnical engineering expertise on a variety of projects. Project work may include environmental remediation, mine reclamation, coal ash, sediment remediation, waterfront structures, or in situ solidification and stabilization depending on qualifications. Work will entail a mixture of subsurface investigation, feasibility studies, design, construction quality assurance, and construction drawings. This is a great opportunity for an entry-level engineer to join a team of diverse group of geotechnical engineers while working on large and complex projects across the US and around the world.

As part of our Resilience Environment team, you'll help improve quality of life. You will work alongside Professional Engineers, Senior Scientists, Project/Program Managers, and Technical Experts on various activities in support of diverse environmental assessment and remediation projects.

    Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities will include a combination of field and office-related tasks and may include travel for extended periods. Field activities may include the following:
    • Oversight of subsurface investigations (installing monitoring wells and soil or rock descriptions) including subcontractor oversight
    • Construction observation of geotechnically focused operations including sheetpile installation, excavation support systems, in-situ soil stabilization, slope stability and remediation
Office responsibilities may include the following:
    • Data management (compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data)
    • Assisting with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda including preparing periodic status/program reports, figures/boring log production
    • Geotechnical data evaluation and calculation
    • Preparing cost estimates and proposals
    • Conducting project-related research (historical data, regulations, permitting, etc.)
While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 50 to 75% of their time in the field. Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    Required Qualifications
    • BS in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
    • Educational focus on geotechnical/geological engineering
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate
    • MS degree with research in geotechnical/geological engineering
    • Prior related internship/work experience
    • 40 hr OSHA certification
