    We are looking for a Physicist PRN to join our team of devoted caregivers. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Medical Physicist, the Radiation Oncology Physicist is responsible for providing radiological and health physics services for the organization and its contracts.

    Job Details

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Ensures accurate calibration and configuration of treatment planning and delivery equipment including: linear accelerators, brachtherapy sealed sources, treatment planning computers, dose verification software and quality assurance and survey equipment.
    • Participates in quality assurance program consistent with American Association of Physicists in Medicine recommendations including: monthly and annual quality assurance tests of equipment and weekly checks of patient charts.
    • Collects accurate treatment planning and patient dosimetry data.
    • Performs and verifies treatment planning calculations and related patient billing.
    • Provides for accurate data collection, management, and transmission in support of research protocols selected by department chairman as well as ensures compliance with study credentialing requirements.
    • Acts as an expert resource for the Lead Medical Physicist in the areas of: equipment purchase, selection and development of new treatment modalities and regulatory compliance and billing issues.
    • Acts as a Certified Radiation Expert, Individual Responsible for Radiation Protection, and/or Radiation Safety Officer as necessary for departments and contracts. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations.
    • Assists and supports the Radiologic student program, specifically the clinical aspect. Provides supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures. Reviews images with students on request and provides quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructions for formal reviews.
    • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
    • Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) certification.
    • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree in medical physics or in a biophysics.
    • Master's degree in medical physics, biophysics, physics or closely related field may be substituted for one year required experience.
    Certifications:
    • ABR or ABMP certification in radiation therapy eligible with full certification preferred.
    Complexity of Work:
    • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
    • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking and analytical skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
    Work Experience:
    • Minimum five years' experience in clinical radiation therapy physics.
    • Minimum three years' experience in applied medical physics, preferably at a medical broad scope licensee, requiring professional level judgment and involving radiation safety.
    Personal Protective Equipment:
    • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
