POSITION SUMMARY: Applications are invited for a tenure-track assistant professor position within the Moravian University School of Theology, beginning in Fall 2026. Successful candidates will have either: (1) a PhD in Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, or a related field; or (2) a Master's degree in Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, or a related field, and ABD in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, or a related field. Teaching responsibilities involve six courses (18 academic credits) per year across multiple degree programs. The Moravian University School of Theology incorporates two historic seminaries with two locations: the Moravian Theological Seminary and Lancaster Theological Seminary. The School of Theology's faculty and student body are broadly ecumenical. Founded in 1742, Moravian University integrates liberal learning, professional education, and civic engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach graduate courses in multiple modalities (on-site, online, hybrid, hyflex) in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament across multiple degree programs, including Biblical Hebrew.
- Supervise student academic and vocational progress.
- Support the mission of Moravian University School of Theology and cultivate interreligious and intercultural awareness as pertinent to the field.
- Produce peer-reviewed publications.
- Participate in professional and/or pastoral organizations and societies.
- Contribute to the institution's commitment to serve students and constituencies from a wide range of religious and cultural contexts.
- Actively participate in service to the University through academic advising, committee membership, and/or mentorship of student clubs and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:
- PhD in Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, Religion, or a related field; or
- Master's degree in Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, Religion, or a related field, and ABD in New Testament Studies, Religion, or a related field.
