- Provide guidance and leadership to professional and non-paraprofessional staff.
- Serve occasionally as the Charge Nurse while determining patient care assignments based on the qualifications, capabilities, and skills of available staff.
- Perform duties in inpatient obstetrics Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) Unit, providing comprehensive specialized nursing care to routine through high risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum obstetrical patients and their infants.
- Provide nursing care for pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiple gestation, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine rupture, amniotic emboli, high/low birth weights, and infants requiring protective isolation.
- Teach patients and family members about disease processes, normal newborn and postpartum care, pre and post-operative cares, pre and post diagnostic procedures; expected and possible adverse reactions to medications and health promotion.
- Perform newborn physical assessments.
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of medical equipment in the labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum unit to included fetal-monitors, respiratory and oxygen therapy equipment, intravenous infusion pumps, suctions, infant warmers, delivery tables.
- Obtain information from patients and/or family to identify chief complaints, symptoms, or reason for seeking health care.
- Document patients' chief complaints and pertinent information (to include medication reconciliation, screening tools, and behavioral health intake surveys) in the electronic health record.
- Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, pain level, height, weight, measurement of head circumference and length); perform a behavioral health screening.
- Provide individualized nursing care to patients based upon the physician's medical plan, the nursing assessment and the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient.
- Screen and review immunization record and administer immunizations to all age groups, administer medications, oxygen, and/or intravenous (IV) fluid via prescribed routes.
- Retrieve information from health information systems such as laboratory and diagnostic procedure results.
- Provide patient education on health promotion and disease management.
- Assist physician with various examinations, diagnostic procedures, and/or minor surgical procedures.
- Perform care coordination activities such as referral management, order reconciliation, and activity tracking
- Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
- Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
