    Description

    **Cook III**

    Charlottesville, VA / Dining Services Back of the House / Full-time Local, fresh ingredients is what we use to produce food for our 11 restaurant and dining venues. We create meals for our fine dining restaurant, upscale bar, casual grab-n-go cafe, open center stage kitchen and for our health care floors. We also host holiday and special/VIP events. We are currently looking for someone to become part of our team that shows pride in what he/she does. The ideal candidate will show interest in growing their talents and maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail. We encourage upward mobility. All are welcome to compete in our quarterly Knife Fight culinary competitions.

    The Cook III is responsible for and the preparation of a wide variety of menu items following established recipes and procedures to ensure that all food products meet departmental standards and resident expectations. The ideal candidate will show interest in growing their talents and maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail. We encourage upward mobility.

    This position has a minimum base rate of $18.00 per hour. **Responsibilities**

    + Supervises the preparations and service of the restaurant, buffets, care areas and banquets.

    + Provide on the job training for new associates in order to teach cooking skills and ensure compliance with safety, sanitary and food preparation requirements.

    + Prepares and directs preparation of regular and special diet foods according to prescribed menus and recipes.

    + Review production sheets and special event sheets in order to prepare appropriate items and quantity of items for assigned menus and events.

    + Recommends and changes menus with approval of their supervisor to increase resident satisfaction, control waste and improve quality.

    **Qualifications**

    + Experience in a commercial kitchen or a professional culinary program

    + Knowledge of methods, materials and practices of food preparation

    + Ability to use standard food preparation utensils

    + Available to work evening, weekends and holidays

    + Able to uphold Magnetic Values (Multicultural-Accountable-Game Changer- Nurturing- Empowering-Teachable)

    **Requirements**

    + Three years of experience in commercial, institutional, or related volume food preparation.

    + ServSafe Certification preferred (can acquire on site)

    + High School diploma, GED or equivalent
