Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

Summary
The teacher will implement into daily instruction appropriate educational curriculum based on the Nevada State Standards. The teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning and supports school and district programs and goals. The teacher will serve as teacher of record for students with disabilities. The job of Speech Language Pathologist was established for the purpose/s of identifying students with communication disabilities; planning and implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success; and recommending treatment plans. This person will be expected to adhere to the Carson City School District's Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees and report directly to the school site administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

• Administer appropriate district curriculum, which is aligned with the Nevada State Standards.
• Assesses students' communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment.
• Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff.
• Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Instructs assigned support staff for the purpose of providing information on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices and feeding techniques and/or implementing prescribed treatment plans.
• Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
• Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist's experience and goals for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
• Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
• Provides speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
• Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. training, IEPs, team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.
• Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
• Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
• Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
• Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning condition in the instructional environment.
• Ensure assessment regulations and guidelines are followed at all times.
• Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
• Work professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
• Adhere to federal, state, and local mandates in special education.
• Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans as identified by student need.
• Utilize positive behavioral supports as appropriate.
• Ensure that students with disabilities are receiving a free appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
• Assist students with disabilities in regular education classrooms.
• Participate in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in a variety of environments, including general education.
• Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, CCC's endorsement preferred.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as handbooks and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and staff.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
State of Nevada Teacher's license (i.e. K-12 Generalist Endorsement for Resource Room, Autism Endorsement for Autism), current driver's license, original social security card. Certified in relevant subject area.
