    Position classification:
    HybridJob duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week.

    Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director.

    Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference.

    We are seeking a candidate to plan, organize, and monitor professional and technical engineering operations and staff or consultants for the Public Works Department.

    This includes development and/or review of traffic engineering studies, designs, plans, and other various related design elements associated with public transportation infrastructure and facilities.

    This position may also participate in the review of engineering submittals associated with public and private improvements within the county for compliance with applicable standards and regulations.



    Civil/Traffic Engineer I:

    Under direction, performs professional engineering work involving the development, review, and design of traffic engineering studies, plans, and programs associated with public transportation infrastructure for compliance with the local, state, and federal standards and specifications


    Civil/Traffic Engineer II:
    Provides support in the discipline of traffic engineering design, maintenance, and operations.

    The Traffic Engineer II is responsible for evaluating the existing condition of our infrastructure to determine treatments needed to ensure the operational integrity of our transportation infrastructure.

    Develop programs and projects and see them through from inception to implementation.


    Civil/Traffic Engineer III:
    Provides a leadership role in the discipline of traffic engineering design, maintenance, and operations.

    The Traffic Engineer is responsible for evaluating the existing condition of our infrastructure to determine treatments needed to ensure the operational integrity of our transportation infrastructure.

    Develop programs and projects and see them through from inception to implementation; designs and manages capital improvements projects, prepares engineering plans, specifications, and construction bids.

    Civil/Traffic Engineer I - $67, $97,501.40Civil/Traffic Engineer II - $75, $109,552.57Civil/Traffic Engineer III - $89, $130,478.87 Examples of Duties for Success Plan, prioritize, and execute professional and technical traffic engineering services.

    Under the guidance of the senior traffic engineer, provide technical recommendations and manage the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program, Cautionary Sign Program, Accessible Parking Program, Veterans Memorial Sign Program, and Roadside Memorial Sign ProgramPerform analyses and surveys of traffic conditions, traffic volume and turning-movements, crash analyses, school traffic safety, neighborhood traffic issues, temporary traffic control plans, and recommend innovative solutionsAssist in operating the County's traffic signal system, including acquiring the necessary skills through training and mentoring to develop and implement timing plans for individual signals and signal coordination plans for corridorsUnder the guidance of the senior traffic engineer, prepare various reports on traffic engineering operations and activities.

    Assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing current development review and design engineering services; implement policies and procedures as directed.

    Assist with the preparation of plans, specifications, cost, and quantity estimates, and bid documents for traffic engineering projects; assist the senior traffic engineer in overseeing the planning, design, and construction of traffic engineering aspects of capital improvement projects.

    Review and prepare comments regarding proposed development cases.
    Coordinate and prioritize design projects with other county departments, and other relevant agencies.
    Manage consultant contracts for Transportation projects.

    Manage engineering design and construction contracts with outside consultants for public improvements including progress of the work, cost reports, and approval of payment for work accomplished.

    Assist in the maintenance of office records, maps, construction project documents and related records.
    Under the guidance of the senior traffic engineer, resolve or justify controversial and complex technical problems.
    Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
    Ensure that proposed development and projects are following relevant laws and regulations.
    Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws, regulations, and codes.
    Prepare requests for proposals and participate in selecting consultants for assigned projects.

    Prepare grant applications including analyzing current and future traffic needs to determine the improvements necessary and enhance public safetyPerform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

    Apply principles and practices of civil engineering and administration.

    Maintain up to date knowledge of pertinent Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations including civil engineering laws and regulations.

    Apply principles and practices of traffic engineering specifically related to traffic signal design and timing.
    Utilize terminology, methods, practices, and techniques used in technical civil engineering report preparation.
    Apply principles and practices of budget preparation and control.
    Maintain up to date knowledge of recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding civil engineering.
    Manage large and complex engineering projects, including the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
    Ensure project compliance with appropriate Federal, state, and local rules, laws, and regulations.
    Conduct comprehensive engineering studies and develop appropriate recommendations.
    Prepare and maintain technical civil engineering records and prepare comprehensive reports.
    Develop, review and modify civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications.
    Exercise professional engineering judgment to achieve results consistent with objectives.
    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Civil/Traffic Engineer I:

    One (1) year of related professional civil engineering experience


    Civil/Traffic Engineer II:
    Minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience


    Civil/Traffic Engineer III:
    Minimum of six (6) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience

    Education and TrainingCivil/Traffic Engineer I-III:
    Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
    License or Certificate

    Civil/Traffic Engineer I:

    Possession of an Engineering Intern (EI) certification preferred


    Civil/Traffic Engineer II:
    Possession of an Engineer Intern (EI) certification. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado is preferred


    Civil/Traffic Engineer III:
    Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado is required. Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is preferred.
