    Modern Family Law seeks an experienced Family Law Attorney for an exciting role as Managing Attorney of our Oakland office.     Salary: $269,000 - $327,000

    Leadership Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the California offices
    • Accountable for the productivity and profitability of the California offices
    • Hire and train attorneys
    • Participate as a mentor in the Modern Family Law mentor program or when a new associate requires mentoring
    • Oversee and monitor accountability of activities, caseloads, and performance of office staff including work product and billable hours goals
    • Responsible for team development through motivation, one-on-one counseling, skill development, and service knowledge development
    • Conduct weekly matter status meetings to monitor the quality of legal services, productivity, progress toward billing goals, and case management and partner with HR on corrective measures as necessary
    • Assist with the development and oversight of each attorney's personal marketing plan
    • Responsible for implementing a budget for the site office and monitoring revenue goals as adopted annually by the Firm's executive team
    • Conduct formal annual performance reviews with staff and performance improvement plans as needed
    • Stopgap for all tasks not specifically assigned or covered by site personnel or the corporate office
    • Provide primary enforcement of the Firm's policies at the specific location and make recommendations, including terminations or corrective action, to HR as necessary

    Attorney Responsibilities

    • Perform initial client consultations and retain new clients
    • Advise clients concerning family law matters
    • Prepare and present cases to judicial officers
    • Evaluate issues and develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation at all stages of cases using knowledge of legal precedence and results of research and investigation
    • Represent clients in court and other case-related proceedings (i.e. mediation, depositions, etc.)
    • Prepare and draft legal documents
    • Negotiate settlements
    • Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of legal issues to establish and verify bases for legal proceedings
    • Actively participate in networking activities and other endeavors to facilitate referrals

    Competencies/Abilities

    • Strong technical skills
    • Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Online Services, Adobe, Salesforce, Macintosh and Windows platforms
    • Salesforce experience is a plus
    • Expert knowledge of CCP, Rules of Evidence, and California filing
    • Ability to independently coach attorneys and make recommendations to effectively solve problems using sound judgment consistent with Firm standards, policies, and procedures
    • Excellent mentoring, coaching, and people management skills, including the ability to independently coach staff and make recommendations to effectively solve problems using sound judgment consistent with Firm standards, policies, and procedures
    • Ability to coordinate and control operational efforts, prioritize and analyzing needs, and general problem-solving
    • Demonstrated ability to manage high-conflict situations, including client control and managing expectations
    • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks/projects with excellent attention to detail
    • Unwavering commitment to the ethical practice of law
    • Ability to maintain confidential information

    Education/Experience

    • Juris Doctorate required
    • Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar
    • 5+ years of experience practicing family law
    • Prior experience supervising attorneys is a plus
    • Experience in legal research and writing; drafting and responding to pleadings
    • Litigation experience and proficiency
    • Knowledge of, or experience with CCP
