- Use schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals, and factory publications to operate, modify, test, and repair complex electronic equipment required for aviation navigation and weather reporting systems.
- Perform construction, installation, preventive maintenance inspection, analysis of meter readings, troubleshooting, repair or replacement of malfunctioning parts or equipment.
- Possess knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software applications.
- Acquire training/instruction on and/or study of the navigational aids listed below, in order to obtain and maintain certifications required to install, maintain, and repair these systems: VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range [VOR], Nondirectional Radio Beacon [NDB], Distance Measuring Equipment [DME] and Automated Weather Observation Systems [AWOS].

- Applicants not possessing the FCC license MAY be considered, however, the applicant must acquire the license within three months of employment.

Job Description:
Are you naturally good at installing and repairing complex technology? The Aeronautics Division at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking an Aviation Electronics Specialist who is a passionate, motivated self-directed aviation enthusiast with a desire to be part of something bigger than themselves.
We're looking for individuals with a high acumen for installing and repairing complex electronic equipment required for aviation navigation and weather reporting systems.
The work is rewarding and involves working with communications, computers, navigational systems, visual aids, and other electronic equipment both on and off airports within the National Air Space System.

If unable to fill at the Electronic Specialist Senior/Aviation Aids level, NDOT will consider applicants at the Electronic Specialist/Aviation Aids level.
Pay range for Electronic Specialist Senior/Aviation Aids level: $ $35.947 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.

Electronic Specialist/Aviation Aids:
Associate's degree from a vocational-technical program in electronics or two years of related experience.
Possession of a General Radiotelephone Operator License (PG) issued by the Federal Communications Commission is required within three months of employment.
Electronic Specialist Senior/Aviation Aids:
Associate's degree from a vocational-technical program in electronics and related experience with navigational aid equipment. Additional years of experience in the work described may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a General Radiotelephone Operator License (PG) issued by the Federal Communications Commission. Possession of FAA letter of verification for Automated Weather Observation Systems (AWOS)
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications of an Electronic Specialist Senior/Aviation Aids + Five years' experience in electronics. A solid concept of math and algebra. FCC General Radio Telephone operators license.
