    SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR

    The Brooklyn Museum seeks energetic teaching artists to teach classes in painting, sculpture, animation, and photography during our summer camp for diverse youth ages 8-13. We are hiring two instructors to each lead their own class. One instructor will teach painting, sculpture, and mixed-media. The other instructor will teach animation and photography. Instructors must be comfortable with teaching the themes and topics represented in our collection and special exhibitions.

    Requirements:
    • A demonstrable commitment to our vision of art as a catalyst for a connected, civic, and empathetic world.
    • Bachelor's degree or B.F.A. in visual arts, education, art history, or a related field
    • Minimum of one year of museum experience and gallery teaching skills
    • Gallery and studio teaching skills with the ability to teach either painting, sculpture, and mixed-media or animation and photography
    • Strong desire to work with young people
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • As required by the Department of Health, all staff must submit a physical exam and TB test, with signed documentation from a physician, by the start of training.


    Responsibilities:
    • Teach two groups of campers, ages 8-10 and 11-13
    • Design curriculum, write lesson plans, and teach morning and afternoon art classes hours long each) in mixed-media or photography
    • Work with the camp team to sanitize art supplies and clean work spaces in between classes
    • Communicate regularly with camp leadership about students, lesson plans, supplies, and any matters of interest.
    • Collaborate with the team in designing other camp activities
    • Supervise 2 teen/college-age counselors
    • Prep studios in the morning and lunch prep period and clean up at end of day
    • Prepare campers' artwork for presentation to families on Friday
    • Facilitate evaluation on the final day of camp week
    • In the event of online camp days, prepare a daily set of google slides for each class and conduct instruction via Zoom

    Salary: $30/hour

    Schedule:
    • Curriculum and Planning Meetings: April-June, TBD
    • Training Schedule: June 24-28.
    • Camp: July 1-August 9, 2024, 8:30 am-5:00 pm
    • All dates are required
