Preferred Qualifications
The RIT K-12 University Center works in collaboration with all divisions at RIT to build connections between the college and the K-12 community (youth, teachers, parents, schools). This is accomplished through many efforts including customized campus visits, onetime hands-on experiences, ongoing grant-funded initiatives facilitated in partnership with area schools, broader impact efforts designed with RIT faculty, and summer camps. The outreach provided by the RIT K-12 University Center aims to increase college-going attitudes, to spark interest in RIT's areas of study (especially STEM fields), and to motivate youth to consider RIT as an eventual fit for college. Additionally, RIT K-12 regularly engages youth in specific populations that are of special interest to the college - for example, exposing youth who may someday be eligible for RIT's Rochester City Scholars scholarship initiative to opportunities at RIT.
The Outreach Specialist designs, coordinates, and implements initiatives on behalf of the RIT K-12 University Center. He/she will provide services to youth, their parents, and their teachers in the form of mentorship, counseling, workshops, academic enrichment, college-readiness programming, etc.
