    Battle Ground Academy is seeking a dynamic and innovative Foreign Language educator to join its Middle school faculty in Founded in 1889, BGA is a K-12th grade college preparatory school located in Franklin, TN. Serving a diverse student population from the surrounding counties, the school embodies the core values of character, scholarship, and excellence in all facets of campus life. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle or high school Spanish in an independent school setting, as well as prior knowledge of project-based learning and/or the design thinking process. More importantly, he/she will be comfortable teaching in a student-centered learning environment and have familiarity with and understanding of the age-appropriate development of Middle Grade students. A Bachelor's degree is required and advanced degrees are preferred. Like all BGA faculty members, the successful candidate should expect to develop healthy and lasting relationships with students, inspire them to reach their full academic and personal potential, model the school's core values on a daily basis, and contribute to the broader life of the school community. BGA is the oldest school in Franklin, a remarkable city located just 20 miles south of Nashville. It has been referred to as "a small-town gem" by the New York Times.     • Create syllabi for each course assigned
    • Plan with other members of the department for sequential curricula, with each year's course of study building upon previous year's work and building toward the following year's work
    • Plan, initiate and guide the study of units of study in Spanish which involve speaking, listening, writing, and reading with the aim of building both linguistic proficiency in Spanish and cultural competency of the Spanish-speaking world.
    • Create assessments (including comprehensive semester exams), evaluate those assessments, and promptly grade those assessments and each student's other work (assignments, presentations, etc.)
    • Keep current each student's attendance and grades using an online management system

    • Communicate regularly and constructively with peers, administrators, students, and parents
    • Contribute to the total middle school program
    • Contribute to the 5-12 World Language initiatives and the MS Humanities Department in its deliberations and collaborative efforts

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or graduate degree (preferred) in Spanish or Spanish Education

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment
    • Teach five classes of 5-15 students each and work with students outside of class.
    • Work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
    • Stand and work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
    • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
