- Graduate with a degree in an occupational therapy program from an institution which meets the educational and field work requirements of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Successful completion of the National Examination for OTR (NBCOT).
- North Carolina State licensure as an Occupational Therapist is required.
- Must hold and maintain current CPR certification.
- Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
- Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
- Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
- Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
- Establishes, monitors and delivers occupational therapy to patients as directed by the physician's plan of treatment and the interdisciplinary patient plan of care.
- Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
- Performs occupational therapy assessment and procedures which require substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and skill based upon principles of psychological, biological, physical and social sciences. This includes a knowledge of growth and development, and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients, whether pediatric, adult, or geriatric. Responsible for making decisions based on the O.T.'s education preparation and experience in occupational therapy.
- Coordinates the care of all assigned patients to assess and identify needs and review the St. Luke's Hospital range of services resulting in achievement of expected goals.
- Actively participates in case conferences and making suggestions to team and supervisor appropriately when needed.
- Effectively communicates with all levels of the work force, both clinical and nonclinical.
- Performs and prioritizes multiple functions or tasks.
- Instructs, adapts and assists patients with Activities of Daily Living including but not limited to reaching, carrying, lifting, standing, walking, dressing, toileting, grooming, eating, sitting and rolling in bed.
- Reads and interprets technical instructions related to the care of the patient.
- Visually and auditorily observes and assesses the patient.
