    Description


    The Watts lab in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology in the College of Pharmacy is seeking a qualified Laboratory Operations Specialist who will oversee day to day operations in the lab and potentially the animal facility.

    The Watts lab has a long standing interest in studying novel targets to treat chronic pain using an approach that includes both mechanistic studies as well as preclinical drug development in cells systems and in vivo.

    The Watts lab is a member of the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience and the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery.

    This position will oversee the procurement of lab supplies, management of inventory and exercise signature authority for purchases related to the research operations.

    This position will organize, coordinate and oversee all tasks related to animal care and safety including training and providing guidance to other lab personnel.

    This position will develop protocols for safe handling practices and standard operating procedures and implement them.

    A successful candidate will work independently or with the PI to develop protocols for new procedures in accordance with research goals and perform scientific experiments to meet research objectives.

    What We're Looking For:
    Education and Experience Needed
    Bachelor's Degree in a health/science related major
    One (1) year of laboratory research experience. ( for example as research volunteer in a lab during the BS degree would be acceptable)


    Preferred:
    Experience handling rodents is desirable but not required


    Skills Needed:

    Ability to:
    work independently and as part of a diverse team of scientists
    carefully document research findings
    work safely and accurately in a laboratory setting

    Fluency in spoken and written English
