Job description
The RN Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of an assigned unit within a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care in compliance with Wisconsin state regulations, federal regulations (CMS), and facility policies. The Unit Manager provides clinical leadership, staff supervision, care coordination, and regulatory compliance oversight.
This position requires an experienced Registered Nurse with strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and long-term care expertise.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin (in good standing)
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) or long-term care setting
- Previous Unit manager experience
- Strong working knowledge of CMS regulations, F-tags, and state survey process
- Experience with MDS, care planning, and restorative nursing preferred
- Current BLS certification
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Resident Care
- Oversee daily clinical operations of assigned nursing unit
- Ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care
- Conduct daily rounds to assess resident conditions and staff performance
- Review physician orders for accuracy and implementation
- Monitor changes in condition and ensure timely interventions
- Participate in admissions, discharges, and transfers
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise and mentor RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching
- Assist with scheduling and staffing coordination
- Address employee concerns and initiate corrective action as needed
- Support ongoing staff education and competency validation
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with:
CMS regulations
- Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) requirements
- Facility policies and procedures
- Participate in state surveys and audits
- Ensure proper documentation standards are maintained
- Monitor infection control practices
- Assist with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Care Coordination
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social services, dietary, and families
- Participate in care plan meetings
- Review and update individualized care plans
- Ensure timely completion of required documentation
Risk Management & Safety
- Investigate incidents and complete required reports
- Ensure medication administration compliance
- Monitor fall prevention and wound care programs
- Promote a safe and therapeutic environment
