SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
This class is responsible for performing preventative/routine, and emergency maintenance to equipment for safe/efficient plant operation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting/ diagnosing/testing/repairing pumps/valves/turbines/compressors/boilers/fans, and piping systems, etc; assisting in testing mechanical equipment to determine optimal operating operations; performing layout/fabrication/rigging/welding; taking measurements to design piping and steel fabrication; cutting/cleaning/grinding/hanging/painting structures/piping.
Oversees/ provides liaison for contractor personnel in performing tasks above. Operates under direct supervision of the Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor, in accordance with established policies and procedures. Extended hours, and on-call availability are required. Performs related work as required.EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Plant vehicles, computer, welding/testing equipment, manual tools, communication, and other equipment/tools as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures; good knowledge of operating systems, flow diagrams, and mechanical drawings; good knowledge in the principles/practices governing power plant mechanical maintenance; skill in performing welding/cutting, and pipe fitting; ability to prepare/maintain logs/reports; ability to communicate both orally/writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with contractors/employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(A) Graduation from an accredited two (2) year community college/technical school with a degree/certification in mechanical technology or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial facility; OR
(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR
(C) An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined in (A), (B), and (C) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must carry a pager, be on-call, and report, on site, within a specified time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
SAFETY HAZARDS:
Loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, oils, and other hazards associated with the position.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
As required in the Public Works Commission's Safety Manual.
