The Development Officer is an essential member of the hospital's advancement team and will work collaboratively with Office of Philanthropy staff in support of strategic fundraising efforts.
The incumbent will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects with emphasis on acquiring major gifts. The Development Officer will manage a portfolio of mid-level prospects, with a focus on discovery and donor engagement. This position requires flexibility of hours, including some evenings and weekends.EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or related field
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum of - 5 years of documented fundraising experience in a not-for-profit setting required.
Experience with Blackbaud software a plus; ability to learn and become proficient with this software will be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors and prospects, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets.
Manages a portfolio of donors with focus on securing gifts at the leadership annual fund level and will help to expand the mid-level gifts program.
Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with development colleagues to maximize the department's total gift revenue.Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.
Implements day-to-day department-based development strategies and activities to ensure their integration into the Office of Philanthropy's overall development program.
Researches, writes, edits, and oversees the preparation of persuasive and accurate solicitations, proposals, stewardship reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication material in support of the department's fund-raising activities.
SKILLS:
The incumbent will have highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Solid understanding of basic fundraising principles.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, and ability to confidently interact with individuals at all levels.
Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Efficient while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Organized, systematic and able to prioritize, schedule and perform complex tasks on time and with minimal supervision.
Able to maintain confidentiality; demonstrate sound judgement and discretion.
Ability to liaise with other departments to achieve fundraising goals.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
