The mission of the Ballard Alliance is to ensure the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard remains a unique and economically vital community for its visitors, residents, businesses, and property owners. The Ballard Alliance represents a strong leadership voice for Ballard and provides programs and services critical to ensuring that Ballard remains a vibrant place to live, shop, work, eat and play. Funded in part through the Ballard Improvement Area, our organization is working to strengthen relationships with neighborhood stakeholders, local elected officials, and key government staff to ensure that our neighborhood is at the forefront of public policy deliberations.

A 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, the Ballard Alliance administers all BIA-funded programs, as well as all other programs previously provided by the Ballard Chamber of Commerce. Our programs include:

Role Description

The Clean & Safe Director will work with the Ballard business and residential community and be responsible for building relationships, outreach, coordination with key city departments and communication to the community regarding safety issues. In addition, the position will provide oversight of Alliance Safety Ambassadors, private security providers and our Clean Streets Team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Continue the work of the Ballard Alliance by supporting the safety needs of the Ballard business and residential community.
  • Identify, communicate and address public safety challenges through building partnerships among neighborhood organizations, businesses, City of Seattle Departments, and residents.
  • Participate in case conferencing meetings with key city representatives and social service providers to help problem-solve for individuals who are having an outsized impact on the Ballard community.
  • Provide follow-up support to business owners and residents who have been impacted by criminal activity, including assistance with crime reporting, coordination with the Seattle Police Department, the Seattle City Attorney's office, and the King County Prosecutor's office.
  • Develop and implement a process for data collection to help identify trends in criminal activity that can be used to support crime-specific City investigation and prosecution work, as well as influence broader crime prevention programs and advocacy.
  • Coordinate with Seattle Police Department officers and crime prevention coordinators on a regular basis.
  • Identify and track crime patterns and community public safety concerns.
  • Manage and direct Ballard Safety Ambassadors and support their work in the community. This work includes safety walks in the district, FIND It Fix It App reporting, use of online communication platforms, and ongoing issue coordination and reporting to various City departments.
  • Coordinate with the Ballard community homelessness outreach coordinator and other social service providers as assigned.
  • Coordinate with peers in other improvement districts and neighborhood organizations within the City of Seattle.
  • Present regular updates and statistics to Board leadership groups and other audiences as needed.
  • Collaborate with Alliance team members to assist in developing crime prevention communication tools including: crime prevention and safety manual, PowerPoint presentation, social media content and other tools as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Activities

Position requires talking, listening, taking meeting minutes, occasional walking, sitting, standing, and bending. Incumbent must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs.

Education and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will possess 5 - 8 years job experience with a focus on public safety and/or public space management. A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in public policy/safety, urban planning, community development or public space management is preferred but not required. CPTED certification not required but preferred.
  • Experience: public safety: 4 years (Preferred)

Pay:
$105, $125,000.00 per year (Salary commensurate with experience)
