- Investigates claims for merit and legitimacy by gathering documentation from all affected parties, identifies and verifies damage to person or property. Establishes appropriate value of claims based on research and analysis.
- Notifies clients of results of investigations. Discusses lines of authority for specific claims resolution. Makes recommendations for settlements or denial of claims. Processes denials.
- Negotiates claims with claimants and/or claimants legal counsel.
- Properly reserves funds. Adjusts claim reserves appropriately. Obtains required releases for finalization of claims.
- Maintains post-litigation files.
- Reviews rates, rules and regulations to ensure that claims practices correctly follow standards and laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 4-8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelors degree with at least one year of additional legal education or experience in a legal or errors and omissions professional liability field required.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred.
- Knowledge of legal concepts, claims handling, and insurance industry.
- Must have a strong work ethic and solid communication, writing, and negotiation skills.
- Must also have the ability to manage a high case load independently and to interact well with all levels of internal and external business partners.
- Tech savvy; ability to learn multiple systems including Microsoft Office Suite and Agency Management software
- Must have or obtain insurance adjuster licenses within 90 days of employment.
