    Singing River Health System Hospital - Gulfport | Full-Time | M-F 7A-330 PM WITH CALL

    Position Overview


    The Nuclear Medicine (Isotope) Technologist, under the supervision of the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Radiologist, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures utilizing radiopharmaceuticals, exercises professional judgment in performance of services, and applies principles of radiation protection for self and the patient.

    He/She must be proficient in vascular access.

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist operates equipment requiring detailed concentration for extended periods of time with, stocks an adequate inventory of supplies at all times, and maintains quality control of procedures and quality assurance of equipment.

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist helps ensure that the Radiology department meets JCAHO/ARRT/ACC standards and achieves the Health System objectives. He/She assists with the development and revision of policies, procedures, and protocols as requested.

    Education

    Associate's degree in a health field required. Graduate of an approved Nuclear Radiology Technology Program required.

    License


    Must be currently licensed as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, RT Nuclear Medicine Technologist, or a Medical Radiation Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, Inc.

    (NMTCB). Must be licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

    Certification

    Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.

    Experience

    Prior experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred.

    Physical Demands

    Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities.

    Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue.

    May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.

    Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.

    Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone.

    Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e.

    shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision.

    Mental Demands

    Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

    Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

    Special Demands

    Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.

    Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.).

    Must have intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook, and Word.

    Work involves exposure to communicable diseases, CRT (computer) equipment, blood and/or body fluids, and electromagnetic energy.
