    Job Description Hours: full-time (37.5 hours per week), 8:30 am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, during court service hours

    Required Education and Experience for Clinician – LMHP-E; Resident in Counseling

    • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling for clinical supervision working toward licensure.
    • One year experience working with identified population served preferred. Eligible to register as an LMHP-E with the VA Board of Counseling within three months of hire.

    Required Education and Experience for Clinician – LMHP

    • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and licensure in the State of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
    • One year of program specific work experience or relevant education, which indicates the individual possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    Position Summary

    The Clinician - Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) position will provide outpatient counseling services to clients referred through the local Juvenile Court Service Unit. Services include assessments, direct counseling (individual and family), treatment planning, and care coordination for both mental health and substance use disorders. This position will be located at the Lynchburg Court Services unit and will require travel to other Court Services Units located within Horizon's catchment area.

    Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge of clinical counseling techniques, behavior modification; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); emergency interventions; family, group, and individual therapies. Also possess knowledge of psychosocial education; risk assessments; sex offender treatment; substance abuse interventions; etc.
    Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual's treatment and access to community resources; Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse.
    Knowledge of the criminal justice system; Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments; Skill to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques; Ability to communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to communicate with individuals from various backgrounds; Skill to perform clinical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate
    treatment plans; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
    Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to clients at other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
