Controller - Gouverneur, NY

Job Summary:

The Controller leads and owns the mine sites accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational alignment across the organization.

This fully on-site leadership role partners closely with site operations and corporate finance to drive financial performance, oversee budgeting and forecasting, maintain internal controls, and support strategic growth initiatives including capital projects and ERP system implementation.

As a Controller, you will be responsible for:

Leading the mine sites accounting and financial reporting functions end-to-end.
Managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Providing oversight of general accounting, cost accounting, and financial controls.
Owning FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, headcount), variance analysis, and financial modeling.
Reporting and analyzing actual financial results against budget and forecast, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
Overseeing inventory cycle counting and ensuring inventory accuracy and controls.
Maintaining capital project spend tracking and fixed asset capitalization processes.
Preparing financial statements, compliance reports, and regulatory filings in accordance with IFRS and applicable standards.
Ensuring adherence to corporate policies and site-established financial procedures.
Supporting internal and external audits and implementing corrective actions from audit findings.
Leading ERP system evaluation, selection, and implementation within a mining/industrial operational environment.
Supporting internal controls and SOX compliance initiatives.
Collaborating with site leadership and corporate stakeholders to provide actionable financial insights.
Preparing ad hoc financial reports and analysis as needed.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives across financial processes.
Maintaining confidentiality and security of financial information.
Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA designation preferred.
Minimum five (5) years of experience as a financial leader; public company experience preferred.
Background in mining, industrial, manufacturing, or similarly complex operational environments required.
Experience in FP&A, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
Experience selecting and implementing ERP systems within operational environments required.
Experience supporting internal controls and SOX implementation required.
Experience with construction project accounting or capital project management preferred.
Knowledge of tax and transfer pricing issues preferred.
Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting standards; U.S. GAAP expertise required.

Additional skills & abilities required:
Advanced, hands-on Excel proficiency required.
Expert-level experience with QuickBooks required.
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
Ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for operational leadership.
Strong understanding of internal controls and compliance frameworks.
Ability to operate independently in a fully on-site environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail with strong organizational capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a growing operational setting.
Collaborative leadership style suited for a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, OneNote, and Teams.

Work Schedule:
