    Summary

    This position is located in NSF's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) within the Office of the Director (OD). The OGC provides legal services to NSF and hosts the dynamic team of professionals who manage the agency's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act programs. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a technical specialist in information access.

    Duties

    Serves as a technical specialist on all matters relating to the management of the Foundation's FOIA and Privacy Act information request programs and responsibilities. The following outlines the major duties and responsibilities of the employee:
  • Responsible for the processing of FOIA and Privacy Act requests received by NSF concerning a wide variety of complex subjects;
  • Serves as an initial reviewer and Initial Denial Authority, as applicable.
  • With FOIA and Privacy Act team, writes training materials, conducts training; assists with providing FOIA/PA information for NSF website; and serves as POC in responding to requests for information.
  • Prepares and provides technical guidance and support on the preparation of reports required by law concerning the agency's FOIA and Privacy Act activities.
  • Working with the FOIA and Privacy Act team, provides technical guidance in connection with the Foundation's implementation of FOIA and Privacy Act and related statutes, regulations, and guidance.
  • Provides excellent customer service to stakeholders and is able to convey complex FOIA matters/issues verbally and in writing.
