Description

Involves all aspects of the medication use process, including procurement, prescribing, compounding, dispensing, storage of medications, administration and monitoring.

Partners with physicians and other clinicians to provide treatments and advice to patients, records patient history relating to medication use and ensures the safe and secure storage of medications and related supplies.

Advises physicians in determining the best possible treatments for specific diseases, stays current on pharmacy regulations, treatments and developments in research and design.

Pharmacists are the experts on drug therapy and the primary health professionals who optimize use of medication for the benefit of the patients.

Meets educational needs of patients, healthcare team, students and residents. Ensures adherence to regulatory and fiscal requirements.
Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinatedachievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy.

Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources incompliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

Ensures subordinate supervisorsand professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protectdepartmental assets.

Under general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Procurement, the Pharmacy Purchasing Manager willdirectly oversee purchasing operations of an organizationally distinct and complex pharmacy service, onbehalf of UCSF Health Department of Pharmaceutical Services.

This includes personnel development,evaluation, and discipline, operationalizing the optimization of the pharmaceutical supply chain, managingdrug shortage and recall procedures, coordinating the unit's activities with other units internal and externalto the department, and managing the unit's operations to address the needs of the organization as a whole,including acute care beds, family practice organization, outpatient clinics, and affiliates.

Specificoperational duties include management of all purchasing, pricing agreements, inventory, storage anddistribution activities for the department. Works in conjunction with the 340B team to ensure 340B programcompliance, optimization and manufacturer patient assistance programs.

Additional duties and essentialjob functions are broad in scope and duties require broad experience and knowledge of the healthcaresystem, pharmacy services, and the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Please note:

The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point.

An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
