    Position Summary

    A Quality Assurance Technologist is responsible for a multitude of different tasks within the clinical molecular laboratory including the quality control testing of all molecular reagents prior to use on clinical samples, assisting the product development team with the validation of new assays and training current employees on new assays as well as new employees on established assays This position is required to be well versed in various molecular techniques that include, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue macro-dissection, RNA/DNA extractions, PCR, RFLP, DNA methylation analysis, Next Generation sequencing and automated liquid handlers. Quality Assurance Technologists are expected to contribute technically and intellectually to enhance efficiency within the lab while ensuring that the quality of reagents and training program is maintained to the highest standard. This position works under the direction of the Director and follows standard laboratory procedures and policies.

    Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare Quality Control of reagents schedule and ensures that testing is performed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Receiving to ensure reagents are regulated properly in the laboratory.
  • Performs all molecular techniques such as real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, Next Generation sequencing, RFLP and DNA Methylation analysis.
  • Assist in drafting validation plans, reports, SOPs, forms, and other documents in support of development, validation, troubleshooting, and launch of new or improved assays.
  • Prepare Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) documents for nonconformance events observed during the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of clinical laboratory testing.
  • Trains Molecular Lab Operations Specialists and Molecular Technologists in new technologies or upon hire.
  • Drives and directs positive group interaction with teammates and fosters solution-oriented decision-making
  • Perform performance checks on laboratory equipment.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science field.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical lab experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, general working knowledge of Internet for business use, and skilled in operating office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.
  • Conditions of Employment: Individuals must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening, and reference verification.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a science field preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations.
  • Demonstrated skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.

  • Physical Demands

  • Will work at a computer some of the time as well as need to keep inventory and ordering records requiring the use of copiers, fax machines, and PDF scanners.
  • Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
  • Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • May have exposure to high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material in the lab environment. Exposure to formaldehyde, xylene, Clorox Bleach, DAB and alcohol which emit fumes. The formaldehyde, xylene, and DAB are carcinogenic.
  • May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents.
  • May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.

  • Second Shift Hours: 1:30pm-12am
