    Summary:


    Scott + Scott is looking for a smart, dedicated attorney, with a passion for helping victims to join our complex torts group based in our Austin, TX office.

    This attorney will work alongside the managing partner prosecuting cases on behalf of seriously injured plaintiffs.


    Scott + Scott attorneys hold leadership positions in numerous multidistrict complex litigations involving plaintiffs injured by unsafe medical devices, pharmaceutical drugs, and toxic exposures.

    We represent hundreds to thousands of individual clients in each litigation.

    The attorney for this position will work with paralegals and outside medical providers to develop individual client cases while collaborating with attorneys who focus on the general liability side of the litigation.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Managing Firm paralegals and outside administrative and medical vendors to develop evidence in support of the individual cases.
    Collaborating with the managing attorney of the group and other litigating attorneys to develop the overall docket of cases.
    Propounding and responding to discovery in the individual plaintiff cases.
    Taking and defending depositions in the individual cases.
    Overseeing the onboarding of large numbers of new clients
    Evaluating and dispositioning new client's cases.
    Calculating the statute of limitations for new cases.

    Overseeing and utilizing the Firm's case management system to accurately and efficiently record the evidence developed in support of each case and assign tasks to the individual team members to develop the case.

    Required Competencies:

    Organization and leadership – capable of leading a team of staff members and outside administrative personnel to accurately and efficiently gather and record large volumes of evidence in the Firm's case management system; then, utilize that evidence in developing the case, responding to discovery, preparation for trial and settlement.

    Oral Communicationspeaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and asks for clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.

    Legal Writing writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet the facts of the case; presents numerical data effectively; is able to read and interpret written information.

    Temperament—demonstrates the ability to work with little supervision; prioritizes and anticipates work needs; works well under periods of pressure and short deadlines.

    Ethicskeeps client and firm information strictly confidential at all times; understands and implements general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.

    Technical Skills—advanced proficiency with Microsoft suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; experience with timekeeping software.


    Required Education and Experience:
    Admission in good standing to the Bar of one or more States.
    Legal degree from an accredited institution.
    4 or more years' experience with mass torts, catastrophic injury cases or other complex torts.


    Preferred Experience:
    Experience with medical device, pharmaceutical drug or toxic exposure cases.
    Knowledge of case management systems.
