SUMMARY
Advanced transportation planning.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
This position requires public interaction or regular appearances before the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and therefore does not permit a claim for protection of your place of work if you will be claiming an exemption from Public Records under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AMD ABILITIES

Leads in the preparation of major Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) programs, projects and plans such as the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), travel demand modeling, freight logistics and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
Performs project reviews for multimodal infrastructure to support MPO goals and objectives.
Performs as project manager for special studies, projects and plans.
Reviews and analyzes traffic data and Geographic Information System (GIS) data.
Reviews studies conducted by other agencies.
Confers with other agencies, civic leaders, government officials, resident groups, and homeowners' associations to identify issues, goals and objectives, and to discuss alternate plans for meeting physical, social and economic needs.
Provides technical and advisory assistance to local governments and agencies.
Prepares agendas and backup for Board and advisory committee meetings as required.
Develops improved work methods to accelerate formulation and completion of planning programs and projects.
Performs work related to this job description as required.

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of urban and regional planning, transportation planning, transit planning, and travel demand modeling.
Ability to interpret data and studies.
Ability to supervise planning studies and to formulate recommendations.
Ability to interpret local, state, and federal plans, laws, and regulations to other government officials and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Proficiency in the use of computer hardware and software related to the position.
Strong organizational, communication, analytical, technical writing, problem solving, decision making, and teambuilding skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Regional Planning, Transportation Planning or closely related field and two (2) years' experience in professional planning work. In-lieu of a Master's Degree, possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation, Public Administration or closely related field and four (4) years of professional planning working for a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners preferred.
