- Follows the order of screening, making the referral and tracking service of referral.
- Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits.
- Resolves precertification, registration and caserelated concerns prior to a patient's appointment.
- Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient is not financially obligated for services provided.
- Knowledge of commonlyused concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Relies on instructions and preestablished guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Process referrals in a timely fashion, including sorting and processing referrals by indicated urgency and date.
- Refer patients to specialists based on each insurance company's available specialty network.
- Document and enter all referrals appropriately in patients' medical records.
- Educate the patients on the referral process including their own responsibilities as well as their insurance company's process and protocols in regards to a referral.
- Verify that providers have sufficiently documented the reason for the referral and have done the appropriate work ups prior to sending the patient to the specialist.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- 24 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- The position is located in Montgomery, TX
- Organizational skills a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Computer experience required
- Ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
- Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to perform assigned tasks independently
- Good verbal and written communication skills
