A position for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist is available in Dr. Sergei Nekhai's lab at Center for Sickle Cell Disease, Howard University. Dr.

Nekhai's research is focused on the mechanism of HIV-1 restriction in Sickle Cell Disease population and Africans with ferroportin driven iron overload.

The studies involve analysis of collected patient's samples, infection with HIV-1 in tissue culture and working with transgenic mouse models.

The position requires familiarity with virology and molecular and cellular techniques. Experience with animals is plus. The applicant is expected to plan and conduct her/his research under the supervision of Principal Investigator. The successful candidate is expected to analyze and interpret the data and draft manuscripts for publication. She/he will also present results at lab meetings, Howard University Research day and International conferences. This postdoctoral researcher will also help to advise and guide a graduate student in their experimental work. The postdoctoral scientist will be helped by a technician.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Strong publication record in high impact journals with first or co-first authorship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD degree in Virology, Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field is preferred.

The candidate is expected to work independently as well as direct others, design and perform experiments, and be able to have strong oral communication and written communication skills.

Prior experiences with animal models is a plus.

Typical Hiring Range $ $68275

Full-Time/Part-Time:
Full-Time

Hours Per Week: 40 hours per week

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 - 5:30
