Speech Language Pathologist - 1.0 FTE

Job Summary:

1. Provides direct and indirect service and research-based therapy techniques to support the curriculum of District 196.
2. Conduct evaluations and assessment to determine eligibility and make recommendations regarding programs and services.
3. Develops individual education plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, and IEP team.
4. Demonstrate current knowledge of instructional best practices and methodology for speech/language services.
5. Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those groups of students that are over-represented in special education
6. Provide instruction in strategies to support students in developing social emotional skills for success.
7. Collaborate with others to plan, teach and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
8. Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure high levels of achievement.
9. Promote and develop strong communication and collaboration with staff, parents and other professionals.
10. Carry out responsibilities as defined by the master contract.

Qualifications:

1. LIcensed by the Minnesota Department of Education as Speech Language Pathologist.
2. Strong general education background.
3. Experience working with and providing service to persons of diverse cultures, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
4. Evidence of a growth mindset and ability to accelerate growth in communication skills using a strengths based model.
5. Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams.
6. Strong oral and written communication skills
7. Ability to relate positively to students, staff, and community.
8. Experience working in a school setting or with children ages birth through 22.
9. Ability to follow directions and procedures and facilitate collaborative teaming around students
10. Ability to facilitate, write and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Support Plans.
11. Ability to collaborate with nursing staff to support and perform the necessary delegated health tasks.
12. Ability to direct the work of paraprofessionals and an understanding of practices for training and supporting paraprofessionals.
13. Knowledge of best practices in the field of special education and implementation strategies for sensory activities, positive behavior support, academic instruction, development of routines, etc.
14. Understanding and ability to conduct an evaluation and determine if a student is eligible for services to support speech, articulation, fluency, voice or language needs.
15. Understanding of and ability to identify appropriate augmentative or alternative communication systems for students.
16. Ability to train teams in the implementation and use of augmentative or alternative communication systems for students.
17. Thorough understanding of the laws, rules and regulations of special education.
18. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.
19. Valid driver's license or ability to provide travel for self between locations.
20. Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Compensation / Benefits: 
According to contractual agreement.
