    Job Description


    Member of a construction project execution team overseeing project scoping, development of design contracts (technical specifications, cost estimates, etc), technical oversight of design, field inspections to confirm drawings/specifications and codes are met, and commissioning of projects ranging from multi-year, multi-million dollar investment projects to smaller scope, short duration projects.

    Develops and implements capital improvement projects, such as construction, remodeling, and renovation, of buildings and facilities, including preliminary concept development, detailed engineering design, and bidding.

    Designs, plans, and/or installs mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, architecture and other infrastructure systems.

    Conducts preliminary surveys and prepares schematics and work drawings for the construction of current, new, or remodeled structures and facilities.

    Complies with organizational and governmental safety standards. Participates in the planning and installation of new facility systems.

    Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill


    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; orMaster's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified; orqualified SIT and 3 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; orCurrently or previously CRE qualified; or6 years as SRE; orSRE qualified and 9 years of experience.

    Preferred Skills


    • Knowledge of infrastructure design and construction.
    • Experience with construction and/or design cost estimating.
    • Knowledge of industry and building trade practice, techniques, codes, and standards.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and computer aided design (CAD) drafting software
    • Able to work independently and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills and able to interact with all levels of personnel, management, subcontractors, and government oversight.

    Pay Range

    $101,600 - $158,800 annually

    The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.

    Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities:
    Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations.

    For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.

    The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
