    Job Requirements

    Minimum Education
    • Nursing Degree from an accredited educational institution required
    • BSN preferred or matriculation within one year preferred.
    Minimum Work Experience
    • Education experience preferred
    • Critical care experience preferred
    • 1-3 years acute care experience preferred
    • Previous experience in management and/or leadership role
    Minimum Licenses and Certifications
    • Licensed Practical Nurse, Current MA License
    • Registered Nurse, Current MA License, preferred
    • AHA BLS required
    • AHA ACLS required within six months
    • AHA PALS required within one year
    • Preferred instructor license for BLS/ACLS/PALS or willingness to become an instructor.

    Essential Functions
    • Works in collaboration with leadership to ensure training compliance with regulatory standards including the Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and to support the implementation of the clinical education and the infection prevention and control programs for the health system. This position supports both the Heywood Hospital and Athol Hospital campuses. Requires schedule flexibility.
    • Provides appropriate follow-up regarding staff education, documentation, family/staff support, etc.
    • Functions as a clinical and administrative resource for nursing and ancillary staff.
    • Provides coaching, education, and in-service learning on a variety of topics, as needed, including proper infection control practices.
    • Performs a variety of duties involving development, implementation, evaluation, and compliance with infection control practices.
    • Participates in program development designed to address local and national trends, and recommendations of organizations such as the Joint Commission and the Centers for Disease Control.
    • Performs daily and routine surveillance in an accurate and consistent manner according to the Infection Prevention and Control surveillance plan.
    • In collaboration with departmental Manager and/or Director, monitors and implements the infection control program. This includes but is not limited to attending unit rounds periodically, performing observations on the hospital floors, procedural areas and other clinical units or locations to assess compliance with hand hygiene, infection control practices and environmental cleaning. Gives direct feedback to healthcare workers when breaches in practice are observed.
    • Provides coaching, education, delivery and implementation of educational programs and in-service learning for clinical staff and non-clinical staff relating to policies and procedures, new products, and proper infection control practices.
    • Assists with Joint Commission survey preparation related to Infection Control.
    • Reports and communicates situation appropriately.
    • Advocates for patients, families, and staff.
    • Intervenes on patient/staff behalf.
    • Supports other departments to support best practice and meet patient needs.
    • Participates in the delivery of monthly Hospital Wide and PCS Orientation content and the follow-up of participants to ensure the transfer of skills and knowledge. To include training on the electronic medical record, infection control practices, and other pertinent topics and skills.
    • Participates in the delivery and implementation of annual generic skills and competencies.
    • Collaborates with the Directors, Nurse Managers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to contribute regarding the delivery of patient care, including decision-making regarding staff learning needs.
    • Functions as a resource for staff, directors, managers, medical staff, students, clinical instructors, patients, and families and throughout the healthcare system.
