    Professor of Architecture (Full-time, Tenure-track)

    Mt. San Antonio College


    Term:10 months/year

    Salary:Initial placement, $67,622 - $100,919 annually

    4. Teaching Philosophy Statement including responses to the following questions:

    • What do you feel are the best strategies for supporting students who have been historically marginalized in the field of architecture?

    • What role should faculty play in student success?

    • Think of the most successful class you have taught. What were the key factors in creating that success, particularly for African American, Latinx, and Native American students?

    • Describe how your teaching approach has changed over the years. Provide examples of what motivated the change(s).
    5. A minimum of three (3) current letters of recommendation that reflect relevant experience (do not use social media or professional networks as a means to provide letters of recommendation or any of the required documents);
    6. College and/or university transcripts showing the awarded/conferred degree are required and must be submitted with the online application by all applicants, including current or former employees of the college, to demonstrate that the required educational qualifications are met. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application; however, copies of diplomas are not accepted in lieu of transcripts; AND
    AND
    7. Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form: All candidates not holding the stated minimum qualifications who are requesting consideration based on an equivalency, must complete this form to be considered.

    Health and Welfare:
    The College contributes $12,159 toward annual premiums for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) retirement programs, and MetLife Social Security Alternative Plan.*Subject to change based on Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Teach a wide range of design, architectural, fabrication and construction related skills, technologies, concepts and practices in both classroom and hands on settings.
    2. Assist students and maintain scheduled office hours
    3. Teach assigned courses in accordance with assigned course outline of record
    4. Participate in ongoing curriculum and course development and improvement, program advisory boards, learning outcome development and assessments, grants relevant to program, serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities
    5. Develop and participate in High School outreach and articulation efforts with high school and 4 year colleges
    6. Coordinate build and maintain industry relationships including job placement assistance for students
    7. Assist Architectural Technology (ARCH), Engineering Construction Technology/Inspection and Estimating (ECT/INSP) and other faculty and staff with organization and maintenance of lab facilities and equipment
    8. Specify and requisition materials, tools, equipment, software and various items required to support practical application of the curriculum
    9. Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities, and College, division, and department policies outside of assigned teaching.
    10. Budget allocation and equipment/material purchasing for instruction and demonstration materials
    11. Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff within the ARCH, Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), Manufacturing (MFG), ECT/INSP Department faculty to plan, develop, and execute inter-related programs
    12. Recruit and evaluate adjunct professors for the program.
    13. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including online courses, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions
    14. Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees
    15. Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract

    Required Qualifications:

    A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
    1. Any bachelor's degree or equivalent foreign degree AND two (2) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment; OR
    2. Any associate degree or equivalent foreign degree AND six (6) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment; OR
    3. The equivalent (must attach an Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form), OR
    4. California Community College credential, "Valid for Life" (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed. Code § If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
    B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
    C. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
    D. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Latinx, Filipino, and Native American students, who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional architectural classrooms.
    E. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1.Master's degree in Architecture
    2.Architectural and/or construction process/management work experience and/or teaching experience
    3.Hands on experience with construction materials process and practices, fabrication, specifications and building and planning codes
    4.Familiarity with and commitment to the mission and functions of a community college
    5.Familiarity with software commonly used in academia and industry including but not limited to Rhino 3D, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Suites, MS Office. Rendering software
    6.Experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and creating a supportive environment in the classroom.

    License(s) and Other Requirements:
    The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver's license.

    All candidates not holding the stated minimum qualifications who are requesting consideration based on an equivalency, must complete the Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form to be considered.

    Conditions of Employment:

    This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract position that begins in the academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.

    Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live-scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live-scan services shall be borne by the candidate.

    TRAVEL POLICY: Costs associated with travel in excess of 150 miles one way from residence for the purpose of an interview will be covered by the College.
