    Senior Director of Finance and Administration


    Title:

    Reports to:
    Executive Director

    The Senior Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for the successful operation and ongoing development of United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County (UWLLC) and United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County Foundation's (Foundation) financial systems and its internal controls including budgeting, auditing, accounting, financial reporting, grant accounting, investment and cash flow oversight, and governmental reporting.

    This role is also responsible for aspects of the organization's Human Resource function including payroll, administration of employee health insurance plans and management and oversight for the employee retirement plan.

    The Senior Director is responsible for administrative oversight including, but not limited to organizational policies and procedures, insurance coverage and compliance, facilities asset management and technology infrastructure.

    The Senior Director also serves as an integral member of the UWLLC Management Team providing input and decision making at a leadership level and serves as the primary liaison for all financial matters to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Finance

    Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the financial accounting and reporting system for both UWLLC and Foundation.
    Ensure financial reporting complies with all General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Standards.
    Ensure financial reporting complies with United Way Worldwide requirements for member United Ways.
    Effectively manage cash flow.

    Perform and oversee bookkeeping duties including payment processing, invoicing, tax and other receipts, data entry, filing, vendor payment, accuracy verification, recording and bank reconciliations.

    Facilitate and ensure fidelity to donor designations.

    Supervise and perform the accounting and reporting of funds raised on behalf of other United Ways and federations for public sector workplace campaigns, and other non-local campaigns.

    Effectively present critical financial detail, advise and assist the Board and the Executive Director in the management of assets and investments for both United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County and Foundation.

    Coordinate and lead the annual consolidated audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee and the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.

    Recruit, organize, attend, and actively engage the Finance Committee. Attend and actively participate in Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings, representing financial matters.
    Consult with the Board Treasurer as needed to ensure transparency and accountability. Prepare monthly and present quarterly financial statements to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

    Oversee, lead and execute annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep leadership team abreast of the organization's financial status.

    Maintain a robust contracts/grant management and financial management and reporting system. Oversee financials of project/program grants and perform grants accounting.

    Ensure that all contract billing and collection schedules are adhered to, and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.

    Conduct contract review.
    Administration

    Serve as the primary point of contact for Human Resources responsibilities and ensure fidelity to legal requirements.
    Maintain and prepare the organization's payroll, benefits programs and related records.
    Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; including human resource and finance department's overall policy and procedure manuals
    Assume responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Executive Director

    Draw on relationships with department heads, external partners, and contracted service providers (accounting, fundraising, IT, HR) to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals.

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
    Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required. MA in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA strongly preferred.
    7-10 years professional, industry and/or nonprofit/human service management experience. United Way experience helpful but not required.
    Demonstrated management and supervisory skills required
    Knowledge of applicable state and federal tax laws and nonprofit accounting principles and standards, including endowment regulations
    Knowledge of federal and state human resource and benefits laws and regulations
    Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and practices
    Proficient in variety of computer programs including Excel, Outlook and database software
