    Description


    Meta is seeking a Mechanical Engineer experienced in the design and construction of Critical Facilities to become part of our data center engineering team.

    Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta.

    The data center design team collaborates with all key stake-holders to ensure engineering and design of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure.

    This position is full-time.

    Mechanical Engineer, DEC Design Responsibilities

    Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define project design criteria and manage change from project concept to substantial completion in order to meet the business and technical needs of Meta
    Manage external consultants to implement the project design through concept, construction documents, and construction administration
    Coordinate with build contractors, equipment manufacturers and trade partners in collaboration with consultants to ensure proper installation and to validate quality of installed works
    Provide construction administrative support to both internal and external partners including, but not limited to, responding to RFI's, issuance of technical bulletins, review submittals and shop-drawings, and conducting source inspections at vendor factories
    Review consultants' engineering calculations, run independent engineering and cost analysis
    Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center HVAC equipment and related components
    Management of mechanical OFCI program which includes review of BOM, spec compliance and travel to equipment manufacturing venues for Factory Witness Testing (FWT)
    Travel to datacenter sites and other external partner locations for engineering studies, mechanical systems audits, commissioning, etc. as required (Approximately 25%)
    Gain consensus and provide solutions to fast paced projects with competing priorities
    Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies

    Minimum Qualifications

    BS in Mechanical Engineering or other technical discipline
    Eight (8)+ years of professional experience in mission critical building design, construction and/or operations
    Knowledge of HVAC systems including Evaporative Systems, Chilled/Condenser Water Systems, Glycool/Glycol, Air Handling Systems (Direct Expansion, Rooftop Units, CRAC Units, etc.), Hot/Cold aisle containment, and Building Management System/Controls Automation
    Knowledge of Plumbing systems including Water Treatment, Pumping Systems and Distribution, Sanitary/Waste Systems, and Storm Drainage Systems.
    Knowledge of Fire Protection/Fire Alarm systems such as Early Warning/Detection Systems, Double Interlock Pre-Action, and Wet Pipe Systems.
    Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including UMC, NFPA, ASHRAE, UBC, UMC and LEED
    Trouble shooting and analytical skills making data driven decisions
    Experience with construction process and cost estimating process
    Project management experience
    Effective communication skills
    Fluent in English

    Preferred Qualifications

    Mechanical Professional Engineer registration
    Experience on liquid cooling mission critical facilities
    Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, Bluebeam software, FLOTHERM or Tileflow
