- Precision calibration of equipment to industry standards: Your commitment to excellence shines as you ensure that all field and laboratory equipment meets and exceeds industry codes and standards. Your expertise guarantees the reliability and accuracy of our testing processes.
- Conducting Special Inspection observations: Your knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) positions you as a key player in ensuring regulatory compliance. Your observations provide critical insights, fostering a culture of safety and quality assurance on every project.
- Maintaining open communication with stakeholders: Your strong interpersonal skills facilitate seamless collaboration with management, contractors, and clients alike. Your ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner fosters trust and transparency, driving the success of our projects.
- A high school diploma/GED
- 2+ years experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials OR 1 year of related experience plus vocational training OR an associate degree in a related field with no experience
- Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
- One or more active certifications:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, your work conducting field testing and observations on construction materials projects ensures that structures are built to last and meet all safety standards making a real impact on the local infrastructure. From soil to rebar, concrete to asphalt, you will witness the progress of construction projects firsthand. By documenting the accurate placement and usage of these materials, you play a crucial role in ensuring that everything is "built right." It's a serious responsibility that we take pride in at S&ME.
