NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 4 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

This position requires a variety of skills, including the ability to perform administrative tasks, coordinate with various levels of study stakeholders, support grant writing and project implementation activities. He/she will be responsible for ensuring all lab purchases are made in a timely and accurate fashion. The incumbent will also process all VA related travel for various study directors. Serve as a liaison with other departments and offices as the main point of contact for the Center. The ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; possession of sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidences are essential. All duties will be executed in accordance with accepted VA policies and guidelines.

Tracking:

  • Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials/personnel to support the policy development and/or technical activities of the study and center.

Grant Management:

  • He/she will monitor budgets for research projects and grants. Involved in the tracking of funding and in the preparation and editing of proposals for VA based grants.

QA/Compliance:

  • Provide administrative and clerical support work to support the activities of the study and center, including email updates, preparation for meetings, and performing data entry into databases.

Administrative Support:

  • Assist in the overall management of the physical, human, and financial resources of the research program.

Travel Management:

  • Will provide travel support for leadership, Invitational Travelers and Center Directors for government travel.

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications


To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Musthave one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing or implementing administrative procedures and assisting with research activities for a program and supporting grant writing and project implementation activities.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent sits comfortably to do the work. However, the incumbent occasionally may perform a variety of work related physical duties, including but not limited to, traveling between various offices (i.e. Jamaica Plain VAMC and McCormack federal bldg. in Boston) carrying light/moderately heavy items (i.e. 5-20 pound items, standing in an upright position for varying lengths of time, and manual use of computer equipment for data processing.
