    Playground Counselor

    Department: Recreation

    Reports To: Youth Program Manager

    Supervisory Responsibilities: No

    Safety Sensitive: Yes

    Classification: Part-time, Seasonal; Non-Exempt

    Job Level: 2

    Driving Status: No

    Work Environment: Outdoors, parks around the Township.


    Summary

    Provide a safe, fun, and memorable experience for township youth in our summer Playground program.


    Essential Functions

    1. Organize and lead structured games and activities. Assist with creating and planning new games and activities.
    2. Supervise daily activities to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
    3. Account for supplies including sports equipment, crafts, board games, etc.
    4. Supervise campers' daily activities.

    Physical Requirements

    1. Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
    2. Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
    3. Ability to talk, hear, and see.
    4. Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers.
    5. Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs.

    Competencies

    1. Ability to engage with campers and parents.
    2. Capability to adapt and change activities based on the group's interest.
    3. Ability to effectively communicate rules, boundaries, guidelines, and scoring of various games and activities.
    4. Capability to engage in arts and crafts activities.
    5. Capacity to communicate with children grades 1-6 in a mature and respectful manner; speak clearly to large and small groups.
    6. Possesses an outgoing, energetic, and positive attitude.

    Skills

    1. Knowledge of various recreational games and activities.
    2. Possesses good leadership, communication, and social skills.

    Abilities

    1. Communicate effectively with participants and parents.
    2. Give clear and concise instructions.

    Required Education and Experience

    1. Participation in large group extracurricular activities.
    2. Must be at least 16 years of age.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    1. Enrolled in a secondary education program for Education, Park and Rec, or related field.
    2. 1-year supervising children.

    Additional Eligibility Requirements

    1. Must pass required State and Federal Background Checks
