    This position is responsible for managing, guiding and supervising a team of engineers, technicians and others in the delivery of transportation related projects.

    The position supervises an engineering unit and consultants in the planning, design and construction phases of all assigned projects.

    This position oversees and manages work on assigned corridors, working closely with local agencies, developing project scopes and preliminary cost estimates and schedules.

    Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Direct, manage and guide all activities and personnel involved in the planning and development of project plans, specifications, and estimates for the design of transportation projects.

    Ensure that the planning process and design complies with project scope, schedule, budget, NEPA requirements, and current design engineering criteria, standards, practices, theories, and procedures.

    Coordinate closely with Local Agencies on planning, design, construction, and special assignments.

    Monitor and administer construction projects to certify that construction is being performed in accordance with the plans and specifications under state and federal requirements.

    Review and approve modifications to design and construction including revisions to contract documents.
    Review and inspect project sites and features for storm water permit compliance and traffic control compliance.
    Resolve complex engineering problems to successfully complete projects within environmental and economic constraints.
    Manage all unit personnel by allocating and assigning staff to the planning, design, and construction phases of transportation projects.

    Prepare, conduct and sign performance plans and ratings of assigned employees; Monitor and approve weekly payroll time sheets; Provide career counseling, training, mentoring and guidance to employees; Develop individual performance plans to resolve conflicts and personnel issues.

    Knowledge and experience in civil engineering design and construction. Maintain current working knowledge of engineering processes, theories, laws, principles, conceptual models, and best practices.

    Knowledge and experience with engineering fundamentals, CDOT Pavement Design Manual, CDOT's Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Construction, and M & S Standards.

    Being open to change and new information; adapting behavior and work methods in response to quickly changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.

    Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects in a demanding environment.
